Whether you are interested in modern furniture, classical furniture or contemporary, the type of wood that is used will make all the difference. In Pakistan and around the world, people prefer to have luxurious and comfortable furniture be it home furniture for the living room, bedroom furniture or even office furniture.

The type of wood used is vital and here are the ones available in the Pakistani market:

Mahogany, WalnutDeodarTeak and Ash Wood

Softwood: Fir, Chir Pine and Hemlock

Hardwood is usually taken from deodar, mahogany, teak and walnut trees. Hardwood is also used in ceilings and on walls and floors. For construction purposes mostly deodar wood is used in Pakistan. This wood type is rot and termite resistant, is durable and strong. People mostly use furniture made up of Hardwood in their houses.

As one of the most treasured woods, mahogany is a main-stay in fine furniture. This expensive wood has a reddish-brown to deep red coloring. At Novardo Interiors, our preferred wood is Mahogany. It gives a rich luxurious finish to our bedroom furniture, living room furniture, sofa sets and consoles.

Ash Wood

With a pale wood color, ash is a tough hardwood. It is extremely flexible without losing its strength, so it is often found in bent and curved furniture.

Teak wood is highly recommended for cabinets and furniture because of its glossy look. Teak wood is also used for window frames, as it has better tendency to resist moisture. Teak wood does not absorb moisture during monsoon season, hence used widely for doors and window fittings. However Teak wood is quite rare and can be a costly option.

Deodar looks astonishingly alluring when polished properly. Walnut wood is very famous for its dark pinkish color.

Walnut wood is used for making furniture, wooden crafts, and also for walls and ceilings. Sometimes, it is used to finish floors because it has good moisture resistance.

Fir, Chir Pine (Pinus roxburghi), and Hemlock are widely used in Pakistan as Softwood. Softwood is lighter and can be bent easily. For this reason, softwood is quite frequently used to make home decor items.

Fir is mostly used for windows and door panels. Fir has two types: blue fir and silver fir.

Chir Pine is taken from Northern parts of Pakistan and is quite popular in furniture and houses made in the Northern Areas. It is also used for making door panels and furniture. It is mostly used for making different patterns, carvings and designs on furniture.

Hemlock wood is known as Shekran in Pakistan. It is used for making furniture, doors, windows, and planks. Hemlock wood readily absorbs moisture, so it not good for floors and this can be a problem especially in the monsoon season.
